How to Apply
Starting August 1st, 2024, the Secretary of State has a new online application. The steps below explain the process on how to renew as a notary in Illinois. Non-resident applicants have a different application process. Please click here if you are a non-resident.

Complete Notary Bond
Starting August 1st, 2024, the Secretary of State has a new online application. To submit your application online, you need to provide a notary bond.

Online Notary Course
Complete the state-required online course and exam. Upon completion you will receive a certificate of completion. The course certificate is needed for your notary application.
Notary Application
Complete the online application through the state's website. If you are a non-resident, you are required to complete the paper application.
Complete Online Application 
Start Notarizing
Once you complete your notary application, you will receive a notarial certificate from the Secretary of State. This certificate indicates you are an Illinois Notary Public. Please forward us your certificate to receive your notary supplies.
